Borussia Dortmund remains on course for growth

Record revenue on the back of transfer income

In the financial year from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018, Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA generated record revenue of EUR 536.0 million.

The increase in revenue was primarily driven by transfer income, which rose by EUR 145.4 million from EUR 77.3 million in the previous year to EUR 222.7 million. “Moreover, despite the rather unsatisfactory results on the pitch in the 2017/2018 season, the further increase in sponsorship income from EUR 87.4 million to EUR 94.0 million underscored the widening appeal of Borussia Dortmund and is representative of the club's sustained growth”, commented Thomas Treß, Managing Director.

TV marketing income decreased by EUR 3.5 million to EUR 122.3 million following the team's comparatively poorer performances on the international stage and in the DFB Cup, after having reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the final of the DFB Cup in the 2016/2017 season. The decline in TV marketing income from the UEFA competitions and the DFB Cup were largely offset by the TV marketing income generated from the Bundesliga TV rights, which increased by EUR 21.8 million to EUR 88.0 million. Due to a change in the distribution model and the substantial increase in UEFA's distributable revenue, the club's TV marketing income generated as a result of competing in the Champions League will rise significantly in the 2018/2019 season. At the same time, Borussia Dortmund expects the TV marketing income from the Bundesliga to increase from EUR 88.0 million to EUR 98.4 million.

Therefore, "Borussia Dortmund will continue to achieve robust growth independent of any future transfer income", stressed Hans-Joachim Watzke, Managing Director (Chairman).

Greater success on the pitch in the upcoming season could also unlock further revenue potential for the club. In any event, Borussia Dortmund has initiated the necessary personnel changes at the beginning of the new 2018/2019 season.
