Lars Ricken, born on July 10, 1976 in Dortmund, was appointed Managing Director Sport of Borussia Dortmund Geschäftsführungs-GmbH by the Executive Committee of the Advisory Board of Borussia Dortmund Geschäftsführungs-GmbH with effect from May 1st, 2024.
Lars Ricken has been associated with Borussia Dortmund since the age of 14. He first played as a youth player from 1991 and then as a professional in the Bundesliga from 1994 to 2007. In a total of 407 games for BVB, he scored 69 goals, including the goal in the 3:1 victory over Juventus Turin in the UEFA Champions League final on May 28, 1997, which brought Borussia Dortmund the greatest success in the club's history. Ricken also won the German championship with BVB in 1995, 1996 and 2002. On July 1, 2008, he was appointed youth coordinator, and on January 1, 2021, he was promoted to director of the youth academy, which he shaped into the most successful in German soccer. Seven of BVB's 16 German championships in the A and B youth divisions were won during his tenure. Several hundred youngsters trained at Borussia Dortmund have made the leap to the top three German leagues or to a top foreign league.
